Calthorpe Estates’ New Garden Square regeneration partner Moda Living, the leading investor, developer and operator of rental communities, has submitted detailed proposals for a new neighbourhood in Edgbaston as part of the New Garden Square masterplan, which when complete will provide much-needed new homes for Birmingham.
The designs feature a 37-storey building at the eastern end of the New Garden Square Masterplan opposite the Edgbaston Village Metro Terminus, and feature an innovative ‘stepped bar’ design which will provide a striking and instantly recognisable local landmark at this gateway to the city approaching the ring road at Five Ways. The plans include 462 high-quality homes for rent, featuring a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom homes, as well as extensive amenity spaces such as a roof terrace, 24-hour gym, co-working space and resident lounges, along with 230 new cycle parking spaces, and alongside the one acre garden that features as part of some £6m to be invested into the public realm of New Garden Square.
Calthorpe Estates and Moda Living have a vision for a major new and modern urban community at New Garden Square with up to 1,600 homes, in continuing to support the city’s 20-year growth ambitions, where the first phase of the masterplan currently under construction at the eastern end of the masterplan will see 392 homes for rent available in Spring 2024.
Ralph Minott, Masterplanning and Development Director at Calthorpe Estates, said: “We are delighted to see the planning submission for further regeneration of the New Garden Square land, and the next phase of our partnership with Moda Living. The New Garden Square masterplan reinforces our commitment to Birmingham’s Future City framework, putting residential and business communities at the heart of our vision for Edgbaston by ensuring green and active neighbourhoods for multi-generational living, health and well-being.
Calthorpe Estates formed its alliance with Moda Living back in 2021, and whilst the partnership progress at New Garden Square further demonstrates Moda’s commitment to Birmingham; Moda’s successful 487 home Mercian Neighbourhood on Broad Street, their 722-home Moda Neighbourhood under construction at Great Charles Street in the city’s Jewellery Quarter, and further 1,000 new homes planned at Stone Yard in Digbeth, all reinforce Moda Living’s commitment to being long term custodians of the communities they operate in, so well aligned with Calthorpe Estates’ long term custodianship within Birmingham.”
