Elmhurst Ballet School is thrilled that the official trailer and streaming date for the feature-length documentary film ‘Madu’ has now been released by Disney +. Madu, directed by Matt Ogens and Joel “Kachi’ Benson, officially opened the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Wednesday 7 February, and will release worldwide on the Disney+ streaming platform on 29 March. This inspiring new film highlights a year in the life of Year 9 student Anthony Madu at home in Nigeria and living and training with us in Birmingham. Madu will capture Anthony’s story after being discovered through a viral 44-second video that was posted online in 2020 and garnered over 16 million views. Having grown up in an isolated community outside of Lagos and with almost no formal training , Anthony’s desire is to introduce and expose more of Nigeria to ballet and hopefully inspire other young men and women in Nigeria to pursue ballet. Forming a rich tapestry told on multiple continents, the film will introduce the world to a boy chasing a dream of inspiration that will resonate with audiences everywhere. Both staff and students at Elmhurst are so proud of Anthony’s courage to openly share his story with the world. His journey, marked by change, personal growth, acceptance, and a sense of belonging, is one that will resonate with everyone. Click here to view the official trailer.

Green Heart Books

Oh how our heart sings to finally be able to share the news that we have a new occupier joining us in Edgbaston Village.

The award-winning team behind ‘The Bookshop on the Green’ announced their intention to open a new independent bookshop on Greenfield Crescent in Edgbaston Village.

The 1200 sqft retail unit,  complete with Poetry Coffee Bar and a full events programme. will be the largest independent bookshop in Birmingham.

Green Heart Books is set to open, 4 Greenfield Crescent, on Wednesday 12th June in time for Independent Bookshop Week which begins on Saturday 15th June.

This highly anticipated news comes in the wake of The Bookshop on the Green’s closure last August, which prompted an outpouring of grief from residents in and around Bournville, Birmingham.

The team will also be involved in the design and build of a new community garden, also located on Greenfield Crescent.
